Description
These baggy trousers were probably adopted from the Rus living in today’s Eastern Europe and Russia. But they spread even to England. The Rus trousers are verifiable between the 8. and 11. century.
The trousers made from brown, slightly felted wool is reconstructed based on the Gotlandic picture stones and similar sources. There are also some fabric fragments found in Haithabu and Birka that could be part of such wide trousers. The finds resemble the pattern from the Thorsberg trousers, but our version is slightly simplified.
The Rus trousers are made from two wool panels three times the width of the thigh. The waistband is closed by a fingerloop braided wool ribbon. The trouser legs are connected with a panel that gets wider on the bottom to give freedom of movement. Around the lower leg the trousers are form fitting so you can wear leg wraps over them.
The Rus trousers are not only suitable for Vikings, but also for other early medieval portrayals.
The visible seams are hand stitched with a copper coloured thread. The invisible seams are machine sewn.
On request all seams can be done by hand or machine.
