Description

This women’s coif is based on the find of St. Birgitta’s coif in Uden (Sweden) and on images of simple caps from several sources. It is made from red linen. Usually these coifs were made from white, unbleached linen, but coloured coifs are of course possible.

This version also has the elaborate embroidery that is found on the original St. Birgitta’s coif. The halves of the coif are connected by an interwoven double herringbone stitch, and the headband has a decorative rhomboid embroidery.

These coifs or caps are suitable for medieval portrayals from the 13th to the 15th century. The coif can be worn on its own or as a base for headscarves or other headdresses. It is very comfortable and easy to put on. Thus it is suitable for many medieval portrayals, for simple folk or for rich people. It is convenient for newcomers to the reenactment and living history scene and also interesting for veteran reenactors.
