Description
This tunic made from madder red wool (chemically dyed) is reconstructed based in the finds from Haithabu (or Hedeby) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Haithabu was an important settlement of danish vikings between the 8th and 11th century and is one of the biggest archeological sites for viking artefacts.
The Haithabu tunic consists of front and back panels with middle and side gussets in the knee-length skirt part. The sleeves are made from one piece with a rounded sleeve head and no underarm gusset. This sleeve form is specific to the finds in Haithabu in early medieval times. In Birka (another important archeological site for vikings) the sleeves are constructed without a rounded sleeve head.
This model has a wide round collar which leaves the undertunic visible. Additionally it has a decorative stitching around the collar.
The visible seams are hand stitched with a copper coloured thread. The invisible seams are machine sewn.
On request all seams can be done by hand or machine.
