    Description

The knee-lengh cotta or tunic is made from luxurious plant-dyed wool in dark green and beige. This wool is very light and thus suitable for summer clothing. The vertical split in colour is called Mi-Parti (half-split). Mi-Parti was developed in the high medieval period for pants, and was expanded into an intricate colour symbolism for all clothes until the late medieval times.

The cut of the tunic is based on the finds in Haithabu (or Hedeby) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The Haithabu cotta consists of front and back panels with middle and side gussets in the a little over knee-length skirt part. The sleeves are made from one piece with a rounded sleeve head and no underarm gusset. This sleeve form is specific to the finds in Haithabu in early medieval times, but spread everywhere in in the high and late medieval periods.

Usually the cotta is worn over an additional white linen under-cotta with the same cut. Wool and linen have excellent temperature regulation when worn together (warm in winter, cool in summer).

The visible seams are hand stitched with green & beige coloured wool thread. The invisible seams are machine sewn.
On request all seams can be done by hand or machine.
