I am currently expanding my collection to include authentic medieval clothing. And after doing late medieval styles, now it is time to add the Vikings. I concentrated on the Haithabu (Hedeby) vikings for now and I started with male clothing. The starting point was a beautiful necklace made from coral, mother of pearl and brass. [...]
Recently I finally had the opportunity to try out some patterns from Truly Victorian. A lady ordered a new Victorian costume from me. She already had very specific requirements and chose a flared skirt and a short jacket with leg-of-mutton sleeves. Additionally she sent me the blue and black striped silk. I bought the black [...]
I have been sewing authentic medieval clothing for a while now, but I didn't have any pretty pictures with those. Luckiliy the lovely Calisere helped me out. She ordered the late medieval green wool dress - reconstructed after the finds in Herjolfsnes - and also organized the photoshooting. I think they created many beautiful, magical [...]
It has been quiet for a while on the website. But I haven't been idle in the meantime. For example I made twelve mini top hats and seven fascinators for the Guggamusik d'Hardar Schlösslefeagar (https://www.schloesslefeagar.com/). The Hardar Schlösslefeagar is a carnival music club (in case you don't know what Guggamusik is ;) ) and they [...]
I got another nice request. The daughter of a friend from the fencing club wanted a Hogwarts coat in the Hufflepuff colours for her birthday. Everything had to be done very fast, since her birthday was around the corner and the coat was supposed to be a surprise. So I got one of her summer [...]
And another custom order. During my last medieval market in Hard, Austria I met a very nice fabric merchant. She bought a blouse in India and that blouse quickly became her favourite. And after many years of faithful service the blouse became a bit battered. Since the original fabric was worn very thin and perforated [...]
This ribbon corset is available in beige in my shop, but I am happy to change all my designs according to your wishes. This customer wanted the ribbon corset still with the fake suede, but in black. Additionally she required a cover for the corset busk, because it would otherwise damage her instrument. (Yes, I'm [...]
A tiny update for a tiny top hat. My small mini to hats and the other small hats are actually rather big - about a third of the full-sized hats. Most fascinator hats you can buy are actually smaller and on request I build one like that as well. The hat is again half the [...]
Recently I got a nice order to complete a Victorian inspired outfit. The customer owns a bordeaux evenning dress and for a LARP event she wanted some accessories or additional pieces of clothing complimenting the dress.
I started to tailor some men's clothing and I was inspired by Doctor Who Classic. As a first project I chose the Fourth Doctor's (Tom Baker) Victorian shirt with the cutout collar. In Part 1 I wrote about my research and here I will describe my construction method and show you the results. Construction The [...]
Some time ago I started to watch the old Doctor Who Classic series. The Doctor always had a fascinating fashion sense. And then I meet the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker, with the long scarf ;)) for the first time. He wears a mixture of Victorian and Steampunk clothes and they are even suitable for everyday [...]
For a customer of mine I made a red version of the Elizabethan corset from my range. The pattern is a pair of bodies fitting for the period from 1550 to 1630. "[It] is based on two preserved examples: a pair of bodies from the grave complex of the countess paladine Dorothea Sabina from Neuburg", [...]
The sixth and last dress from the editorial series "The Muse" is finished. Originally I planned to play with different shades of grey in the dress and corset. Unfortunately the grey fabrics didn't look good together. So I rummaged a bit in my clothing collection and found my white Steampunk corset. It's made from snow-white [...]
Slowly but surely I am finishing the work for our editorial. The fifth dress is ready. This time it is less of a dress and more corset and jewelry though. I made a skirt with long train from apple green chiffon. Then I added green corset with many ruches (the design is inspired by Maya [...]
I'm still working on an editorial with photographer Mario Bertolini, makeup artist Tamara Ciullo and model Angela Asiana. We're photographing in old industrial areas (we've already been in an art deco and in a concrete factory). My dresses have flowing cuts and draped fabric. On top of the dresses you wear corsets to give them a clear silhouette. The two dresses [...]
Together with my neighbour the photographer (http://www.bertoliniphoto.at/), one of the make-up artists from Switzerland (http://getalook.ch/) and a wonderful model (http://www.angelaasiana.com/) we planned an editorial. I just invented the name "The Muse" since all of the dresses more or less have a Greek or Roman style. Everything had to go very fast, so I just bought [...]
Recently I made a customized Victorian jacket. Here it is in the shop: Arthemis astyanax – Victorian jacket The customer wanted the jacket completely black and with long sleeves. Changes like this are possible without a problem. In this case it didn't even cost more. And the size was made-to-measure of course. ;) I'm always looking [...]
Right now I'm being scheduled as a private seamstress for our sword figthing club more and more. ;) As a start I was commissioned with simple medieval coifs. Since they will be used in training historical correctness wasn't that important for now. My coifs are a padded version for wearing under a fencing mask. I [...]
Today there's only a short update. Right now I am getting a driving licence for motocycles and suddenly all evenings are gone for classes. There's only little time left for sewing or writing. And then there are all the birthdays in my family at once (I'm exagerrating only slightly). ;) But soon all of that [...]
The date for moving to a new apartment is getting closer. I already packed the first boxes. But that doesn't stop me from continuing to sew. Ok, well maybe a little... But Leah's dress for the Loki and Leah cospay is ready. I don't really like to copy cosplays exactly. It is a bit unsatisfactory [...]
Today and yesterday I have been on a sword fighting seminar (which was really great), this is why it took some time, but now Artemisia's armour is finished. Last time I wrote about the breast armour and sword belt (made from fake leather) and about the golden spikes (made from mould powder and resin). Meanwhile [...]
Right now everyone seems to think that it would be great to order something from me RIGHT NOW. You know, shortly before I am moving to a new apartment. ;) But not that I'm complaining. I just need a lot longer for the unpaid projects. For example the Loki & Leah and the Artemisia costumes. [...]
For my mint green, knee-lenghth silk dress with very beautiful draping and plissé I decided that an underskirt would work really well with that dress. And a jacket would be useful as well since the dress only got narrow straps.
Recently I had a discussion why I went through all the trouble of embroidering my elven wedding gown by hand. A machine could do that just as well. And I have to admit I couldn't give a convincing answer at the time. Simply because I never saw a comparable work done with an embroidery machine.
This wedding pillow I made back in summer for the wedding of a friend. She only told me to use the colours creme and apricot. And if you ask me for something like this, of course you get some retro flair.
